Caring For Your Rug

Vacuuming is an essential part of caring for your area rug. However, You want to avoid using a rotating brush attachment, or beater bar. Using a vacuum beater bar could damage the rug and void the warranty.

Make sure to vacuum your area rug on a regular basis or as needed.

When vacuuming, always try to vacuum in the direction of the pile. We also recommend vacuuming the back of the rug maybe once a month.

If you notice an area on your rug that has more traffic wear, we recommend rotating the rug maybe once a year. Rotating your rugs will allow them to wear more evenly, maintaining their original appearance and value. You also need to take into consideration when rotating your area rugs the amount of direct sunlight. Over time direct sunlight can fade the dyes of your rugs.

Spot Cleaning

Taking care of the spot immediately is very helpful in cleaning your area rugs. Removing stains such as coffee, juices, animals, milk, foods, and dyes must be taken care of immediately. It is important to blot the rug stain rather than rubbing it. For hard-to-clean spots, you can blot with club soda or a mix of half-white vinegar and cold water.

Mix one cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of water. White vinegar is sometimes effective on tannins (weak vegetable dyes found in tea and coffee), and it leaves no residue.

However, be careful because acids can set some other dye stains. Repeat this if necessary and blot again to remove most of the moisture.

You will need an absorbent paper or cloth towel. A toothbrush can also be used to blot the area. Warm water and mild detergent might work fine as a first step. Mix the cleaning solutions according to the directions. In truth, more is not better. Don’t use too much water; try to keep the carpet as dry as possible. let the rug dry after cleaning then vacuum it to restore the pile and texture.

Rug Pad

Rug Pad can extend the life of the rug.

Placing your rug under dining tables: Measure the diameter of the table. Make sure to add 24 inches to 30 inches on each side for side chairs, and 30 inches to 36 inches for armchairs. When moving the chairs to be seated at the table, the chair's back legs should still be on the rug and not outside of the rug.

Using your area rugs in hallways: Length can be optional. Try to place the rug in an area where it does not end in the middle of a doorway. It is fine to use multiple smaller runners in very long halls. Multiple runners do not have to be matching, but colors should coordinate. Coordinating: Multiple rugs used in adjacent spaces should complement one another in color and style but can be the same or different patterns.

Consult a specialist

Cleaning your area rugs properly can enhance their look and value. If you cannot seem to remove a stain, we recommend consulting a rug cleaning specialist in your area.

Repair & Restoration

If your rug needs repair, consider the value of the rug in comparison to the cost of repair. Professional repair can take time and can be expensive. Only work with a reputable and knowledgeable area rug specialist who has experience in both, repair and restoration.
