Area rugs play an enormous part
in contributing to the overall look of the room. A substantial way to add color
and texture to your room, a suitably placed area carpet can help to combine the
diverse elements in the space together and complement your furniture placement.
Furthermore, it can also add warmth and help to keep your floors clean;
however, selecting the right area rug for your room requires certain thoughts
about various factors like size, shape, color, pattern and placement.
Wall-to-wall carpet isn’t
practically as popular as earlier it used to be.
Carpets can look immense in rooms
especially in which you want to add some depth or drama. In addition, thick
mohair or wool rug feels offer great underfoot, lending immediate
sophistication to your space. On the other hand, for the living room, kitchen,
bathroom and dining area, a rug (preferably a short pile, which means shorter
fibres) might be more suitable as these areas see more traffic. It will be
easier for you to move the rug around and wash it too!
Area rugs look great and are
often more practical than broadloom, but if you're going to use them, certain
prime factors need to keep in mind such as size, texture, color, pattern, and
shape are all variables to consider, along with the doubt that whether it will
complement or clash with existing furniture as one wrong selection can throw an
entire room off balance.
Size
It is important to pick an area
rug that is proportionate in size to the space that it is meant for. A rug that
is too small will create a disconnected, uneven look while a rug that is too
large will overpower the space. One substantial way to use a smaller rug is to
layer it with a large rug underneath for an interesting effect. In a large
room, we can also use two or more rugs to define and segregate different areas.
Color and Pattern
Whenever it comes to selecting an
area rug, think long and hard about the color and pattern as selecting a
patterned rug can be a distinguished way to add color and interest to a room
with general furniture and walls. Likewise, a solid rug in a neutral color can
be a pleasant way to soothe an assorted room. It is important to remember that
a patterned rug will be better for hiding dirt and spills while a solid rug is
more likely to show stains.
Shape
Round rugs can bring a
lighthearted feel to the room but are preferably used in small sizes. A round
area rug is best used with circular or curved furniture pieces as round tables
and beds etc. Rectangular and square rugs generate a more formal feel. A square
or rectangular area rug can be used with similarly shaped furniture or rarely
round tables, provided the table that is small enough to be centred on the rug.
